KRCB Radio’s Word By Word: Conversations With Writers returns with all new shows and Gil Mansergh as the new host. “I like the vitality of in-studio, roundtable interviews,” Gil says, “when you have several authors sitting at the same table and focusing on the same theme, you get real conversations. It’s fun, exciting, and often unpredictable.”
Novelists Greg Sarris and Jean Hegland consider the “Literary Landscapes” that shaped their writings on the May 2nd opening show. Greg’s urban-based “Grand Avenue” and “Watermelon Nights,” are set in the streets and buildings and rivers and laguna which defined his Santa Rosa upbringing. In contrast, Jean’s “Into the Forest” is set in a near future in which urban infrastructures have collapsed and two teen-aged sisters must find ways to survive in a locale very similar to rural Sonoma County. During the conversation, the authors share evocative excerpts from their works, and discover surprising parallels in their literary landscapes.

Gil Mansergh’s name (and voice) should be familiar to many KRCB listeners. His movie columns appear in four Sonoma County newspapers, and his “Cinema Toast” radio show has been a Thursday morning staple on KRSH-FM for seven years. Author or “Book Doctor” of over 50 books, manuals and curriculums, Gil was honored as a “Freelance Success” by Writers Digest Magazine. A dynamic seminar leader, Gil honed his interview skills during his five year tenure as Director of the prestigious California Writers Conference at Asilomar. “I m excited to have this opportunity to share my conversations with authors with KRCB’s listeners,” Gil says, “and I appreciate your
comments.”
